Critiques :

James Suckling (JS) : 95 Points (2014)
Lots of stone and dark-walnut aromas here. Blackberries. Full body; this is very much a malbec in character. All old vines. Bark character and black tea. From the areas of Vistalba, Perdriel and La Consulta.

Tim Atkin (TA) : 93 Points (2014)
A blend of old vine Malbecs from Las Compuertas, Perdriel and La Consulta, this sees more oak than most of Matías Riccitelli’s wines, but has the structure, plush tannins and fruit concentration to cope. Savoury, dense and beautifully balanced, it’s smoky, plummy and brimming with fruit. 2017-2025

Jancis Robinson (JR) : 18 Points (2014)
March 2017 - First vintage of this wine was 2009, which was riper than 2014. 3 different terroirs of old vines: Vistalba 40% (very close to the winery), Perdriel 20% (ripeness), 40% La Consulta. Aged in French oak - 2nd use and older. Blend may change but always from these three terroirs and old vines, which are 80-100 years old. Intense purple crimson. Packed with spice and lightly floral. Lifted mulberry and cassis fruits. Spicy and peppery from less ripe fruit. Floral is from higher eg from La Consulta at 1,500 m. All that fruit is reined in on the palate with the dry chalky finesse of the finest of tannins. Lovely shape from the tannin and acid. ‘My obsession is try to make a wine to keep for many years’, says Riccitelli. 'I hate dead wines at four years old.' This has a spine of freshness. Opens in the glass and becomes more savoury. Dry, dry beautiful finish. (JH)

Exotic black-fruit aromas are more surface-level than deep. This well-built Malbec has lift and intensity on the palate. Dark, toasty black-fruit flavors are delicious but typical for this type of full-bodied Mendoza Malbec. Pastry notes, oak grain and char are the most distinct characteristics on a full-force finish. Drink through 2023.

Robert Parker (RP) : 91 Points (2014)
Dec 2016 - Luis Gutierrez - The first wine ever produced by Matias Riccitelli in 2009 is now in its fifth incarnation--the 2014 Vineyard Selection. It is a blend of Malbec from a number of vineyards in the Vistalba zone, Perdriel and La Consulta, so from a diversity of terroirs from Mendoza. It fermented in small cement pools with indigenous yeasts and matured in French barriques until bottling in October 2015. It has a very harmonious nose with notes of violets and ripe cherries, a pinch of spices and a silky palate with round tannins, easy but not banal, with enough punch, keeping the balance. The oak is very well integrated into the wine, a huge improvement from the 2012 I tasted last time.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 89 Points (2013)
July 2017 - Bright medium ruby. Showing more balsamic cedar and herbs on the nose than the 2014 The Apple . . . Malbec; plenty ripe but less dark-fruity and chocolatey and more minty and herbal. Despite revealing a slightly porty quality on the palate, this intensely flavored wine is much less sweet than The Apple, with its currant and blackberry flavors complemented by a saline quality and nicely framed by healthy acidity. A bit less forthcoming, drier and more classic on the end, showing suaver tannins. -- Stephen Tanzer
